A central Indiana plumbing company is offering free training and other perks, but still finds it challenging to find workers. Indianapolis-based Hope Plumbing Owner Jack Hope says his company will pay for a training program and once completed plumbers could be making up to $50,000 per year. His company also provides a take-home vehicle and cell phone. During an appearance on Inside INdiana Business Television, Hope says a perception issue is preventing his company and others in the traditional trades from finding enough qualified workers.
Established by Jack Hope, Hope Plumbing has expanded to include a staff of skilled tradesmen and office personnel that can tackle any residential plumbing issue.
Hope believes people don’t appreciate hard work in the same way as previous generations. He says an idea has been created that getting your hands dirty on the job, or needing to take a shower after work is “somehow demeaning or not as helpful for your community.” He also says he can place an ad for plumbers at around $50,000 per year and receive ZERO applicants, but a similar announcement for a receptionist attracts around 500 applicants.
Hope is trying to reach grads at a younger age to highlight the attract career options in the traditional trades.
